Level Design
Level design is the craft of building playable spaces: layout, flow, encounters and the readability of a route.
As a skill, level design covers blockout, metrics, encounter composition, sightlines and signposting, plus the scripting that drives events, triggers and sequences. It is iterative by nature: a space is built rough, played, measured against what players did, and rebuilt, often many times before any art is placed.
Postings ask for an editor and usually visual scripting, World Building across connected areas, and enough technical awareness to respect streaming and performance limits. Playtesting is part of the skill rather than a separate activity, because a layout can only be judged by watching it be played.
Level design is asked for in level and world designer roles, but also in game design, technical design and environment art postings, where someone has to turn a design intent into a space that a player can read without being told where to go.
