Quest Designer

A quest designer writes and builds the missions of a game: the setup, the steps, the branches and the dialogue that carries them.

The role is half writing, half construction. The designer plans what a quest asks of the player, scripts it in the engine, places the triggers and conditions, and iterates once it is playable. Unreal and blueprints carry the building side, dialogue writing and narrative design the other.

The difference from a narrative designer is scope: a narrative designer shapes the story and its structure, a quest designer makes a given piece of it work as something you play. The difference from a level designer is the subject: space versus task.

Playtesting belongs to the craft. A quest reads well on paper and still fails when players take the route nobody planned for, and finding that out early is part of the job.
