Team Lead

Team leads run a discipline inside a project: planning the work, reviewing it, and developing the people who do it.

A team lead is the first management step out of a craft, and most of the job stays inside that craft. The lead plans and distributes work, reviews what comes back, keeps the quality bar, and represents the discipline in planning with production and the other leads.

The people side is the part that is new: one-to-ones, feedback, hiring and the development of each team member, plus the everyday friction that never reaches a ticket. Hands-on work continues, but it is scheduled around the team rather than the other way round.

The title appears across every discipline — art, animation, engineering, QA — so the technical requirements in an advert follow the craft, not the word lead. Above it sit discipline leads and directors with scope across several teams.
