Security Engineer

Security engineers protect player accounts, game services and studio systems, and work on cheating as a technical problem.

The field splits in two. One half is ordinary application and infrastructure security: threat modelling, code and dependency review, access control, incident response and the compliance work that comes with handling player data and payments.

The other half is specific to games. Anti-cheat means reverse engineering what attackers do to a client, detecting it without punishing honest players, and shipping countermeasures into a live title where every change is public within hours.

Both sides need C++ and a working understanding of the platforms the game runs on, plus the cloud services behind it. The anti-cheat side sits close to the game team; the platform side sits with services and IT, and adverts usually make clear which one they mean in the first paragraph.
