Market Research

Market research in games means finding out what players and the market actually do: category sizing, competitor tracking, pricing and the evidence behind a product decision.

The skill combines desk research with data. Store charts, revenue estimates, genre trends and competitor releases provide the external picture; surveys, interviews and test campaigns fill in what the public numbers cannot show. The output is usually a recommendation that someone will spend money on, so the method has to survive questioning.

It shows up in marketing, product and strategy roles alike. A feature proposal, a pricing change, a decision to enter a market or to stop investing in one all rest on this work, which makes clear reporting part of the skill rather than an extra.

Game Analysis reads a game's own systems and data. User Research studies how specific people behave with a build. Market research looks outward, at demand, competitors and the commercial picture.
