2D Animation
2D animation in games means movement drawn or rigged in the plane: sprite sequences, cut-out rigs, interface motion and the effects that sit on top of a frame.
Two approaches dominate. Frame-by-frame work draws each pose and lives from strong keys and clear silhouettes; rigged cut-out animation builds a character from pieces and moves them, which is cheaper to adjust and easier to reuse. Which one a project uses depends on the look it wants and the budget it has.
Interface animation belongs here too and is often underrated: a button that responds, a reward that lands with weight, a transition that explains where the player just went. Short pieces, seen thousands of times, where timing decides whether the game feels responsive.
3D Animation solves the same problem with depth and rigs in space. Motion Graphics leans towards design and type. 2D animation is the flat craft, and the principles of timing and spacing carry all of it.
