GoLang

Go is used in game backends for the services around a title: matchmaking, accounts, inventories, live-ops endpoints and anything that has to hold up under many simultaneous players.

The language is chosen for operational reasons. Goroutines and channels make concurrent request handling straightforward, binaries deploy as a single file, and the toolchain is fast enough that large services stay comfortable to build. For a service that must stay up while a game runs, those properties matter more than language features.

Typical work means HTTP and gRPC endpoints, database access, queues and caches, plus the instrumentation that makes an incident diagnosable at three in the morning. Containers and cloud infrastructure come with the territory, as does writing code someone else has to operate.

Backend Development is the broader field, and C++ remains the language inside the game client. Go sits on the server side, where the game meets its players rather than its frames.
