Economy Designer

An economy designer sets what things cost in a game, what players earn, and how both change as they progress.

The subject is the loop between effort and reward: currencies, prices, drop rates, progression curves and the events that bend them for a while. The designer builds the model, balances it, and watches what players do with it after release.

Spreadsheet modelling sits next to engine work, because the values have to end up in the build. Monetization design is the neighbouring field and often part of the same job, which is why the two titles overlap in practice.

The work is judged on whether a game stays interesting over months without pushing players into spending they regret. That makes it one of the design roles closest to live data, and one where a change can be measured within days.
