Monetization Designer

A monetization designer builds the parts of a game players can pay for, and the progression around them, so that spending fits the game instead of fighting it.

The role designs offers, shop structures, passes, currencies and the progression they attach to. That means working out what an item is worth inside the game's own economy, how an offer reads to someone who never spends, and where a price point stops being attractive. Most of it is systems design with numbers attached, close to economy and engagement design.

Live operation is the second half: planning the calendar of events and offers, reading what each one did to revenue and retention, and adjusting the model from there. Spreadsheets, telemetry and simulation of an economy over weeks are standard tools, and so is arguing a case against the rest of the design team.

An Economy Designer owns the flow of resources through the whole game, whether money is involved or not. A Monetization Specialist runs and optimises what already exists. The designer defines the systems in the first place.
