Server Administration

Server administration keeps the machines a game depends on running: provisioning, configuration, monitoring, updates and the response when something fails at the worst moment.

A game that is online has infrastructure behind it, and someone has to own it. That means setting up and configuring hosts or containers, keeping systems patched, managing access, watching load and capacity, and making sure there is a path back when a deployment goes wrong. Automation is the goal rather than an extra: a server configured by hand cannot be rebuilt reliably.

Monitoring and incident work define the quality of the role. Useful alerts, readable dashboards and a post-incident review that changes something are what separate a stable service from one that merely has not failed yet.

Cloud Services cover the platforms this often runs on, and CI/CD covers the delivery path onto them. Server administration is the operational ground underneath both.
