Test Automation Engineer
A test automation engineer builds the tests that run without anyone playing: smoke tests on every build, performance and load runs, and the pipeline that reports the results.
The role writes and maintains code whose only product is information about other code. That covers automated runs through a build, device and platform farms, load tests against servers, and the reporting that tells a team which commit moved a frame time or a crash rate. Python, C++ and scripting languages appear most often, together with CI/CD systems and cloud infrastructure to run the jobs on.
Much of the value is in keeping the suite trustworthy. A test that fails at random gets ignored within a week, so flakiness, run time and clear failure output matter as much as coverage. Results often land in a database and a dashboard, which is why SQL shows up in the requirements.
A QA Tester plays the build and judges what a player would notice. The automation engineer takes over the repeatable part of that work so the manual effort goes where a human is actually needed.
