Operations Manager

An operations manager keeps a released game running: the release calendar, the live events in it, and the handover between the teams that build, test and publish each update.

Operations management in games sits between development and the live product. The work is planning and coordination: which event ships in which week, what has to be ready for it, who signs it off, and what happens when a release slips.

The core craft is project management, not engine knowledge. SQL belongs to it, because the decisions rest on numbers out of the live game, and the role usually carries a team of its own. The difference from a producer is the time axis: a producer takes a game to release, an operations manager keeps it in service afterwards.

Day to day the role means schedules, process descriptions, and the meetings that keep several disciplines on the same plan. It suits people who like order and can hold a calendar against pressure.
