Game Developer

Game Developer is the broad tag for the people who build the game itself - gameplay code, editor tools and UI - in Unity or Unreal, from internship to principal level.

The adverts under this tag are programming jobs inside a game team. C# with Unity and C++ with Unreal are the two common pairs. The work is gameplay systems, editor tools for designers and artists, and the code behind menus and HUDs. Seniority runs from an internship on an Unreal project to a principal programmer who sets the technical direction of a title.

Studios use the title loosely. A posting called Game Developer can mean exactly the same work as Gameplay Programmer, or it can mean a generalist who also touches build scripts, UI and a little backend because the team is small.

Gameplay Programmer, Tools Programmer and Engine Programmer separate the same field by what the code is for, and their descriptions are narrower. Employers in this list are in Frankfurt am Main and in the Munich area.
