SVN
Subversion is the centralised version control still running in parts of game development, usually where large binary assets and long-lived projects make a change of system expensive.
The model is different from a distributed system: there is one repository, history lives on the server, and a working copy is a checkout rather than a full clone. For projects with very large art and audio files that suits the situation, because nobody has to hold the whole history locally, and file locking stops two artists editing the same uneditable binary at once.
Practical knowledge means the everyday operations and the awkward ones: merges, branching conventions that fit a release schedule, externals, and resolving a conflict in a file that cannot be merged line by line. Build systems and pipelines usually hang off the repository too.
Git is the common choice for code today, and Perforce dominates where asset size rules. Subversion is asked for by the projects that are already on it.
