Multiplayer Backend (Photon / PlayFab / Nakama)
Multiplayer services off the shelf: matchmaking, lobbies, player accounts and live configuration through Photon, PlayFab, Nakama and their kin.
These platforms cover the parts of an online game that every title needs and few want to build twice: authentication and player profiles, matchmaking and lobbies, leaderboards, inventories and virtual economies, remote configuration for live events, and server hosting that scales with a launch. Postings ask for the SDK on the client side, the service rules or cloud functions on the server side, and enough cloud knowledge to deploy and watch them.
The hard parts named in briefs are migration and cost: moving a live player base between backends, keeping economies authoritative so a client cannot grant itself currency, and watching what traffic does to the bill. Load testing before an event and a rollback plan for a bad configuration come up regularly.
Network Programming covers replication and latency inside the game loop; Backend Development covers services built from scratch. This skill is about the managed platforms in between.
