User Researcher
A user researcher finds out how players actually experience a game: where they get stuck, what they misunderstand, and why the ones who left stopped playing.
The role brings evidence about people into a process that otherwise runs on opinion. Methods range from moderated playtests and observation to surveys, interviews and diary studies, chosen to fit the question rather than out of habit. Watching someone play in silence usually reveals more than asking them afterwards what they thought.
Reporting is half the job. A finding that a team does not believe changes nothing, so a good report separates what was observed from what it might mean, and says how confident the evidence allows anyone to be. Recruiting the right participants matters too: feedback from people who are not the audience leads a team astray with great authority.
A UX Researcher concentrates on interfaces and flows. The user researcher asks about the whole game experience, including whether it is enjoyable at all.
