Marketing Director
Marketing directors own how a game reaches its audience: positioning, budget, channels and the campaign around a release.
The role sets the marketing strategy for a title or a portfolio and carries the budget for it. That includes positioning and messaging, the mix of paid, owned and earned channels, the beat plan around announcements and launch, and the agencies and partners who execute parts of it.
Measurement runs through all of it: acquisition cost, wishlists, conversion and retention decide where the next euro goes, and a campaign that looks good without moving those numbers is not a success.
The role leads a team of specialists — brand, user acquisition, PR, community, social — rather than doing their work. It sits beside product management, which owns the commercial side of the game itself, and it usually answers to studio or publishing leadership.
