Business Development Manager

Finds and closes the deals a studio lives on: publishing, work for hire, platform and partner agreements.

Business development is the commercial side of making games. The work is building a pipeline of publishers, platform holders and clients, pitching projects, modelling what a deal is worth, and negotiating terms that production can actually deliver against. Trade shows and matchmaking events are where a good part of that pipeline starts.

Inside the studio the role sits between creative ambition and commercial reality. Feasibility, cost, risk and milestone structure get checked with production and finance before anyone signs, and after signing the same person often stays the first contact for the partner.

A sales manager usually works an existing catalogue or product line. Business development builds the relationships and the terms that exist before there is anything to sell, and hands over to marketing once the deal is in place.
