Business Development

Business development in games means building the deals around a title: publishing, platform and store placement, licensing, distribution partners and payment or advertising arrangements.

The skill turns up wherever a game has to reach players through someone else. That includes negotiating with platform holders and stores, signing titles for a publishing label, licensing an IP in either direction, and setting up partnerships for distribution, payments or media. Research comes first in most cases: who the right partner is, what a comparable deal looked like, and what the company can realistically offer.

Day to day the work is outreach, meetings, term sheets and the follow-up that keeps an agreement alive after signature. Contract literacy matters, as does the discipline to track deliverables and deadlines across many partners at once. The assistant-level postings concentrate on exactly that administrative backbone.

Marketing addresses players; sales moves an existing product. Business development creates the arrangements that make either possible, and it is measured over quarters rather than campaigns.
