Animation Director
An animation director sets how a game moves and keeps every animator working to that standard, from motion capture shoots to the final pass in the engine.
The role owns the movement language of a project. It decides how a character carries weight, how a camera settles after a hit, and how far a style sits from realism. From there it becomes review work: looking at shots and gameplay animations, giving notes, and holding the quality line across a team that may run into dozens of animators.
Motion capture is usually part of it, including shot lists, directing performers on the stage, and deciding what gets captured versus hand-animated. The other half is technical negotiation with programmers and technical animators about state machines, blending and budget, because an animation that cannot be played back is not finished.
A 3D Animator produces the shots. An Art Director owns the look of the whole game. The animation director sits between them for everything that moves.
