Lecturer

A lecturer teaches game development at a university or college and usually combines teaching with supervision of student projects.

These positions sit in higher education rather than in a studio. The subjects are the ones a studio would recognise: programming, game design, interface design, and the production of a project from concept to playable build.

What is asked for is a double qualification. Academic requirements apply, and so does practical experience, because students expect to be taught by somebody who has shipped something. Teaching load, supervision duties and, in some posts, research or transfer work are set by the institution.

The appeal is a different pace from production: a semester rhythm instead of a milestone plan, and work that is measured in what students can do afterwards. Contracts are often fixed term or tied to a specific teaching mandate.
