Funding Officer

Funding officers assess and administer public or institutional funding for games, from application to final report.

A funding officer works at the body that distributes money rather than at the studio that receives it. The job means reading applications, judging a project's substance, budget and feasibility, preparing decisions for a committee, drafting the grant conditions, then following the project through its reporting and settlement.

It requires enough understanding of production to tell an ambitious plan from an impossible one, and enough administrative care to stand behind a decision about public money years later. Postings come from film and media funding institutions, ministries and industry associations, and usually ask for both.

This is not a producer's job and not a games-industry sales role: there is nothing to sell. The nearest relative in a studio is production, because both are about judging whether a plan and a budget describe the same project.
