Esports Manager
Esports managers run the competitive side of a game: formats, rules, seasons, teams and broadcasts.
An esports manager plans and operates competition around a title: tournament formats and rulebooks, qualification paths and seasons, prize structures, licensing for third-party events, relations with teams, players and organisers, and the production that gets matches on screen.
The work is operational and contractual at once. Postings ask for event experience, budget responsibility, and a reading of the competitive community that is precise enough to notice when a format change will be seen as unfair rather than fresh.
It differs from community management, which covers the whole player base rather than the competitive top of it, and from a game designer, who sets the balance those competitions run on. The two meet regularly, because a ruleset and a patch cycle have to agree on what the game is for a season.
