Build Engineer

Build engineers own the pipeline that turns a repository into a running, testable, shippable game.

A build engineer sets up and maintains automated builds for every target platform, keeps build times and failures under control, manages branches and merges with the version control the studio uses, packages and signs releases, and wires in automated tests and distribution to QA and storefronts.

Postings ask for scripting, a CI system such as Jenkins or a cloud equivalent, deep familiarity with Perforce or Git on large binary repositories, and platform knowledge for console submission. Debugging someone else's failing build is a daily task, so the role needs patience as much as automation skill.

A DevOps engineer is usually about services in production; a release manager coordinates dates and approvals. Build engineering is the machinery in between, and it is the reason a studio can ship a candidate build on a Friday without anyone building it by hand.
