Audio Engineer
An audio engineer handles the technical side of game sound: recording sessions, editing and cleaning material, and the signal work that gets it into the build intact.
The work begins at the microphone. Field recording, foley and voice sessions all need someone who knows rooms, placement and gain, because a noisy take costs far more to repair than to record again. Afterwards comes editing, restoration, batch processing and preparing files to the format and loudness the project requires.
Implementation is often part of the role too: getting the assets into the audio middleware, setting up buses and effects, and checking the result on the platforms players use, including a phone speaker and a cheap headset.
A Sound Designer invents what a thing should sound like. An Audio Director decides the direction for all of it. The audio engineer makes sure the material is technically sound and arrives in the game that way.
