Historical Consultant

A historical consultant supplies and checks the factual basis of a game set in the real past: sources, technical detail, and whether a model or a scene would have been possible.

The role turns archives into something a production can use. That means finding and organising source material, from drawings and technical documentation to photographs and museum holdings, and turning it into briefs an artist or designer can work from. Reading a technical drawing well enough to judge a model against it is part of the job.

The second part is review. Assets and scenes come back to be checked for accuracy, and the consultant says where a detail is wrong and what the correct version looks like. Where sources run out, the role estimates and documents a plausible version rather than leaving a gap, and advises other departments on equipment, clothing and events.

A Narrative Designer decides what the story does with a setting. The historical consultant establishes what the setting actually was, and defends it against convenience.
