Data Engineer

Data engineers build the pipelines that move game and player events into a form analysts and designers can use.

A data engineer in games owns ingestion and modelling: event instrumentation agreed with the game team, streaming and batch pipelines, a warehouse schema that survives new features, plus the testing, lineage and monitoring that make the numbers trustworthy. Scale is part of the job description, since a live title emits events for every session, match and purchase.

Postings ask for SQL and Python, a cloud warehouse, orchestration and transformation tooling, containers and CI/CD. Reliability counts more than novelty: a broken pipeline is noticed when a decision has already been made on a wrong figure.

A data analyst and a game analyst interpret the data and answer questions with it; a data engineer makes sure the data exists, arrives on time and means what it claims. In studios with both roles, instrumentation design is usually the seam where they work together most closely.
